Carly Burnham, InsNerds.com

Carly Burnham began her insurance career in 2004 as an office assistant at an agency in her hometown of Duluth, Minnesota. She became licensed as a producer while working at that agency and progressed to office manager. While working in the agency, Carly saw the benefit that insurance consumers experienced by having proper protection. When she moved to Des Moines in 2010, Carly decided to commit to the industry, and she completed her CPCU in one year. After completing her M.B.A. at Iowa State University in 2014, Carly and Tony Canas founded insnerds.com, and in 2017, they wrote the bestseller "Insuring Tomorrow: Engaging Millennials in the Insurance Industry." She is passionate about sharing knowledge and shaping the future of the industry.


Karen Milliner, Professional Networking Services, LLC

Karen Milliner is a professional networker, speaker, coach and body language specialist- focusing on teaching effective communication through verbal and non-verbal techniques. She started her first company, Professional Networking Services, LLC, in October 2014 after realizing that the services that she had been offering, on a limited basis to friends and colleagues, were needed throughout the business community. Karen helps her clients understand the what, why and how of effective communication, using neurolinguistics information, from the initial contact to major presentations. Her clients have spanned from young adults going into the work force to C-level executives who are looking to become even more dynamic in their communication; working with clients to help alleviate the fears of public speaking and help seasoned speakers come out of their ruts – allowing them to engage, educate and entertain. In 2017 Karen began two more companies – We Speak for You Speaker’s Bureau and Speaking of You. She attended school at both University of Louisville and Sullivan University studying marketing and sales management.

Kathy Davis, Allstate, Moderator

Kathy Davis is the regional sales director for Allstate Benefits in Kentucky and has over 25 years of experience in the employee benefits industry. Her areas of expertise include recruiting agents and promoting voluntary benefits such as life, disability, accident and critical illness plans. Kathy works to advantageously arrange employees with the best options for Voluntary benefit when taking their existing major medical plan into consideration and is proactive to assist them with their needs for the future. Her passion is meeting with and helping employees make benefit decisions. Prior to joining Allstate Benefits, Kathy worked for Cindy Green of Green and Associates as an account executive for seven years. She has been a committee member for several years and is currently the vice chair for the Women Leaders in Insurance & Financial Services. Kathy has been married to Greg for 22 years and is raising two boys in Bardstown. If you can’t find her at the lake, there is a good chance she is cheering on her Cardinals at a football game or enjoying a concert somewhere listening to one of her favorite artists. Kathy is a magna cum laude graduate of The University of Louisville, with a bachelor of science in leadership and learning. 

Nancy Atkins, DOI Commissioner

Nancy G. Atkins was appointed commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Insurance, effective May 1, 2017. She is a 33-year veteran of the insurance industry, working as both a licensed agent and employee benefit manager. Nancy previously served as the deputy commissioner for DOI, an appointment she held since February 2017. Prior to joining DOI, she served as the director of sales and marketing for Baptist Health Plan (formerly Bluegrass Family Health), where she managed a large team of agents and account representatives. Nancy also worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kentucky and Advantage Care Inc., focusing largely on employee benefit plan management for small and large corporations throughout the state. She was a licensed nurse and former hospital administration professional. Nancy is a graduate of Indiana State University with a bachelor’s degree in communications and marketing. She is a former member of the board of directors for both the Better Business Bureau of Louisville and Southern Indiana and the Central Kentucky Association of Health Underwriters, where she also is a past president.

Lauren Johnson, McGregor & Associates

Lauren Johnson is a partner with McGregor & Associates, Inc., an employee benefits administration and consulting firm. In her role with McGregor & Associates, Inc. she is responsible for the development strategies and day-to-day operations of the Firm’s division devoted to the Affordable Care Act, flexible benefits, COBRA and other health and welfare benefit compliance issues. Lauren has over 18 years of technical expertise and is a frequent speaker at industry events. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University and is a graduate of Leadership Lexington, a leadership program in Kentucky that offers individuals in the community the opportunity to broaden perspectives and strengthen leadership skills. Lauren has served as president of both the Central Kentucky Association of Health Underwriters and the Lexington Employee Benefits Council. She is certified in flexible compensation through the Employers Council of Flexible Compensation and is a chartered benefit consultant through The National Association of Alternative Benefit Consultants.

Lori Legel, AssuredPartners

Lori Legel is a senior account executive, joining AssuredPartners in May 2017. She works with consultants in initiating strategic benefit enhancements, providing compliance support and developing the renewal strategy and timeline. Prior to relocating to Louisville and joining the AssuredPartners team, Lori worked with Digital Insurance in the Richmond, Virginia office as a senior advisor in the 100+ market.  She has 11 years of experience in the client management role, bringing strategy and service to the many employee benefit plans she has managed.  Lori is a 2001 graduate of the University of Dayton with a bachelor’s degree in public relations and is a licensed life and health agent. 

Jennifer Willis, Humana

Jennifer Willis is the north/southeast regional vice president for commercial division market development at Humana. She formerly held the vice president of commercial sales role in Humana’s Midwest Region. Jennifer’s journey to Humana started in 1996 when she joined Employers Health Insurance, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. When Humana acquired Employers Health, she moved into key sales, marketing and leadership roles in Humana’s Illinois, Arizona and Kentucky market offices. Growing up in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, Jennifer had the opportunity to travel throughout the world before attending the University of Illinois, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree. She enjoys volunteering with professional and non-profit organizations and has been received several awards including the Spirited Women Achieving Notoriety (SWAN) award, the Strong Woman Leadership Award by the Prospect Area Chamber of Commerce and the Rotarian of the Year by the Prospect Goshen Rotary Club.

Michelle Love, EM Ford, Moderator

Michelle Love began her insurance career in 1994 as an office manager and commercial agent for Gardner Insurance Agency in Owensboro. In 2002, she joined EM Ford in Owensboro as a commercial producer. EM Ford is a full-service independent insurance agency offering insurance, financial planning and group benefits to protect their clients for the past 95 years. Michelle specializes in municipalities, schools, non-profits, home care and ecommerce accounts. She has a B.S. in accounting from Brescia University and will complete her CRM designation early next year. Michelle is also past chair of the Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky having served on their board for many years. She is also a member of the IIABA Trusted Choice National Junior Golf Committee, KEMI Agent’s Advising Council, Women Leaders in Insurance Committee, Daviess County High School PAWS (PTO) Board and also serves on several IIAK committees. Michelle is a graduate of Leadership Owensboro and is active in the Owensboro community. She and her husband, Chris, reside in Owensboro with their children, Jess and Daniel.


Shannon Antle Hamilton, Stites & Harbison, PLLC

Shannon Antle Hamilton is a member with Stites & Harbison, PLLC and is the chair of the firm's employment law service group. She is listed in Best Lawyers in America®, Chambers USA® and Kentucky Super Lawyers®. Shannon is a seasoned litigator and counselor on complex employment law issues, has significant lead trial counsel experience in employment litigation and has tried numerous employment cases to verdict. She also has significant experience as lead counsel in commercial and business tort litigation. Shannon routinely defends her clients against EEOC charges and other administrative claims relating to discrimination claims, wage and hour claims and other employment laws under both state and federal law. Her employment litigation practice focuses on defending employers against discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims, covenants not to compete, non-solicitation and confidentiality agreements. Shannon is a member of the American, Kentucky and Louisville Bar Associations and is admitted to practice law in Kentucky.

Meghan Kirkman, Travelers

Meghan Kirkman is a dynamic, people focused leader equally focused on business results and employee development and experiences. After growing through various roles and responsibilities underwriting management liability and developing her territory through superior service and product knowledge, she now leads a team of management liability underwriters across Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan for Travelers Bond & Specialty. Meghan and her team bring depth of knowledge for privately held and not for profit customer’s management liability insurance needs, including cyber, crime, D&O, employment practices liability, fiduciary liability, kidnap & ransom, and miscellaneous professional liability.

Dawn Whalen, Travelers

Dawn Whalen began her insurance career in 1989, working in a large independent agency in Rochester, New York. Learning the business from the ground up, she eventually obtained a position as a personal lines manager until moving to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1996 with her husband where she began working for The Hartford, as a personal lines inside sales representative. Dawn relocated with the company to Louisville, Kentucky in 1997 managing the state and building relationships with agents. In 2000, she joined an agency who was also a master agent of a large network/aggregator as their operations manager. Since 2004, Dawn has worked for national and regional carriers in territory sales roles. She has been with Travelers since 2009 as a personal lines sales executive, working with and helping 120+ agents grow their business across the state of Kentucky. Dawn is currently working on her CIC designation, in which she takes her final exam in October.
